Leadership….

What is leadership? What makes a leader?

Starting in September, I’m going to preach three sermons on the subject of leadership. My goal is to help everyone in the congregation start to think of themselves as a leader. If you read this, and have some insight on what makes a leader, please leave me your ideas in the comments. You’ll help me with my sermon, and maybe you’ll give someone else some ideas to chew on.

  • I think that is a critical point, actually - leadership begins with calling. Too often people set off to lead, with no idea where they are going. And sometimes those people are charismatic and gifted enough to get people to follow them to nowhere, but the results are disastrous.

Likewise, others might lack charisma, but have a clear sense of where they are headed - and though they may not convince as many people to follow them, at least they head in the right direction.

Calling is to leadership what a compass is to navigation.

    Thanks for posting your comment!!
  • The first thing that comes to my mind is leadership is sometimes an elusive quality until it becomes a calling. The disciples were certainly followers, and sometimes lacking in even that quality, until the one they followed called them to leadership. -- badly stated but perhaps you get my point.
